Overview

Voiceware Express + Server

This device is the IP PBX and has two network connections, one attaches to the hotels existing network and the other to the network with the gateways and SIP phones (see below).

Gateways

The gateways connect the analog guest room phones to the Voiceware IP PBX. Gateways are always placed on the Voiceware Express + network (see diagram below).

Admin SIP Phones

These SIP admin phones are used for the front desk and other admin locations such as the GMs office. These phones are preconfigured and should work out of the box. Note that they must be connected to the POE switch that is in turn connected to the Voiceware Server.

Its important to ensure that the correct ports on the Voiceware server are used. The left most ethernet connection (labeled eth0) is connected to the customers network. This is how the system gains internet access and its this connection that allows inbound/outbound calling and allows Phonesuite to remotely access the equipment. The right-hand port (labeled eth1) is connected to the POE switch and in turn the phones and gateways.

Best Practices

  • All equipment should be rack mounted

    • Note that in some cases there will not be a rack, or not enough room on the existing rack, to mount the Voiceware equipment. In this case the reseller should provide their own wall mount rack. Phonesuite can recommend racks if needed.

  • The POE switch is not normally rack mountable and should simply be placed on top or near by the other equipment

    • Note: mark the switch or place it in a location to discourage others from connecting to it. Placing blank ethernet cable ends into unused switch ports can discourage others from attempting to connect their own equipment.

  • Ensure that the POE ports are used for the SIP phones. Connecting gateways to POE ports will not damage any equipment.

  • Ensure all equipment (Voiceware server, POE switch, and gateways) are connected to a UPS

    • Note: mark the POE switch so that its clear that its part of the Voiceware installation. Use child proof power outlet plugs to discourage others from plugging their equipment into the POE switch.
