Sounds

The Sounds page is where new sounds can be uploaded and edited in the system. Voiceware divided sounds into three categories: Sounds, Phrases, and Music on Hold. Sounds are things like recorded voice prompts and Drop-In VM Messages.

Phrases are several sounds that have been combined into one logical file that can be played by an IVR.

Version: 4.3.0.5

New Features: Updated the TTS engine to improve voice quality and increased the number of available voices.

Music on Hold is the song or sound that a caller hears when they are placed on hold.

Voiceware will accept files uploaded in MP3 format and will convert them internally to a .WAV format. If newly added sounds do not work after a short period of time the sound should be manually converted into a .WAV format with a sample rate of 8 KHz (Bit Rate 128kbbs, Audio sample size 16 bit, channels 1, Audio format PCM).

How to section

Starting in Version 4.3 Voiceware supports SSML tags with text to speech. These tags allow the speech to be customized to sound more lifelike.

See this page for a full description of the available SSML tags and their use: Supported SSML tags - Amazon Polly

Remember that when using SSML the text must include the <speak> tags, as shown below.

Visual Overview

Allows management of user recorded or custom uploaded sound files.

By clicking on the Create from TTS button a page loads that allows the creation of a custom sound file.

New music on hold files can be uploaded to the system, an external source can also be used.

If using an external music source plug into the pink jack on the back of the Voiceware server.

Drop-in messages are used by front desk staff via the Browser Console to quickly drop into a guest’s voicemail box a pre-recorded message. This can be used for welcome instruction, common notices, etc.

Line by Line Explanation

Each item in the help page will have an expand along with the information from the help page.

Click on the “Browse” button to find the file on the local computer. After the file has been located click “Upload”. The new audio file should now be listed in the “Contents” below.

This feature allows the creation of a sound file from text entered into the text box. This feature requires an active internet connection and has many options for voices and accents. Once created (a process that might 30 seconds or so) the resulting sound file is placed into the list of sound files in the Contents section below.

All sounds that have been added to the system are listed here. Any file can be renamed by using the “Rename” button to the right of the sound. If the sounds name is clicked on the file can be listened to or downloaded. You can also upload a new sound to replace the old one; this is useful to replace a sound without having to change the file name in every IVR where the sound might be used. The file itself can also be replaced by using the “Browse” button located on this page and the steps for adding a new sound listed above. Lastly unwanted sounds can be deleted by placing a check in the box to the left of the sound and then clicking the “Delete” button at the bottom of the page.

New folders can also be created in this section to help better organize sound files. Simply click the Folders tab near the top of the page, enter a folder name, and click “Create Folder”.

Sounds:

This link will reset the page to the default view where a new sound can be added and existing sounds can be edited.

Music on Hold:

This section is like Sounds (described above) but will list any files here under Music on Hold. A file system (named Class) is also provided here to make organizing files easier. Different songs can be added under one “Music on Hold” selection. All music on hold songs will be displayed on the right side and their play order can be changed by clicking on a song then clicking the “Up” or “Down” buttons. They can also be deleted by selecting the song and clicking “Delete”. If “Ordered Play” is disabled “Repeat” must be checked, otherwise the caller will be left in silence when the system runs out of songs.

External music can be used by checking the Use External Source. Once selected an audio player must be connected to the Voiceware server using a 3.5mm audio jack and plugged into the pink microphone jack.

Speech Recognition:

Not currently in use.

Drop-In VM Mesg:

Unlike the other sections, Drop-In VM Messages only allow sounds to be selected from a drop-down list. This list is populated from the Sounds (not Phrases) section and only 30 (10 for English, Spanish, and French languages) can be added. To add a sound click the “Click to edit” text under Sound File, this will load a dropdown populated with all Sounds currently loaded in the system. A label for the sound can also be added the same way. These messages are then placed into a guest’s mailbox from the Browser Console.
